Reading Recovery
Dargaville Primary has two Reading Recovery teachers – Joan Hartle and Jenny Bishop
Reading Recovery is an early intervention programme which helps students, aged 6 to 7, to develop the skills to become independent readers & writers. The tutors are specially trained, and they develop individually designed lessons to meet each child’s particular needs. The students are taught daily for 30 minutes of intensive reading and writing.
This is in addition to in-class instruction. The children are withdrawn from class at different times so the same class subjects are not missed all the time.
This programme is partially funded by the Ministry of Education. A significant financial contribution is also made by the Board of Trustees.
