On Friday 14th we were fortunate enough to have the inspirational Cameron Leslie speaking to us. Born without fully formed arms and legs, he adopted a ‘can do’ attitude towards any obstacles in his life.
Although he had been told swimming was not for him, he became an elite athlete representing New Zealand internationally and brought home gold medals in swimming from both the Beijing and London Paralympic games.
He also represented new Zealand as part of the “Wheel Blacks” team – New Zealand’s Wheelchair Rugby squad.
Cameron Leslie is also a successful sports journalist and is Sports Editor for Whangarei’s Northern Advocate newspaper.
The children made the most of the opportunity to ask him questions about his life and his achievements.
